Context

Chanel is a global luxury Maison renowned for its timeless creations in fashion, fragrance, and beauty. As part of its digital transformation, Chanel develops and maintains a rich ecosystem of digital platforms to elevate the customer journey and embody the Maison’s heritage in the digital age.

In a few words, this ecosystem includes the main website and applications dedicated to the Fashion division, which serve both as brand showcases and immersive experiences for a discerning clientele. My role involved contributing to the continuous evolution of Chanel’s digital touchpoints, ensuring their refinement and alignment with the brand’s image of excellence.

I joined Chanel with the mission to design and enhance digital interfaces across the Fashion division, while also:

  • Supporting the delivery of new pages and sections for the main Fashion website.

  • Ensuring consistency and elegance in UX/UI, in collaboration with the dedicated design team.

  • Contributing to the crafting of refined, immersive digital experiences faithful to Chanel’s DNA.

I took on the role of UI designer, bridging creativity and functionality to deliver high-end digital experiences in line with the Maison’s legacy.

Audit

To propose effective solutions, it was essential to gather data. I began by conducting a series of interviews with various collaborators within the Fashion teams to better understand their roles, their interactions with other departments, and their perception of end users.

I then synthesized these insights into a reference document that highlighted several key issues:

  • Internal teams had varying levels of digital maturity, leading to inconsistencies in user journeys.

  • User knowledge was fragmented and often based on unstructured or anecdotal feedback.

  • Design processes lacked a shared framework to ensure coherence, elegance, and efficiency in interface development.

This analysis laid the foundation for a more structured, user-centered design approach, while staying true to the Maison’s aesthetic and standards of excellence.

The priority was to improve user access. With PMs, we first tested a two-step approach (an online platform to trigger interviews and a questionnaire for active customers), which faced limitations (low response rate and underutilized client-CSM relationships). At the same time, I trained PMs in Discovery methods, gradually embedding these practices despite varying support needs.

To consolidate what worked and structure Discovery, with the Head of Design and I, we implemented an Opportunity Solution Tree for each product scope, bringing together product goals, hypotheses, and user feedback in a single framework

Conclusion

My experience at Chanel for the Fashion division was highly enriching, both technically and personally. I was able to develop my skills in UI design and product strategy, while collaborating with very talented teams. It was an important step in my career.

My mission concluded with the establishment of a more structured design team, which will bring a strong user-centered culture and high-quality UI solutions to the Fashion division.
